Station

Today, the station is a little smaller than I’ve operated in the past.  I’m currently using an Elecraft KX3 at 5 watts.  I have also added a KD1JV ATS-3b.  And have recently repaired my old TS-440SAT that had been out of service for about 15 years.

The antennas are a 135′ doublet fed with 300 ohm window line at about 45′ (used on 80 through 10), a 40m ground plane with 3 radials, with the feedpoint up about 12′, and a trapped EFHW – right now on 10/15/30 meters…look for more info on this antenna later.  More antennas are in the planning stages!

I also have an old Drake R4 and have a Heathkit DX-40/VF-1 combo that I hope to put on the air one day – at least the DX-40, I may build a DDS VFO instead of trying to use the VF-1.  In the near future I anticipate all operation will be at QRP into wire antennas.

Other HF rigs owned and operated in the past:

Drake TR-3
Yaesu FT-101EE
Kenwood TS-440SAT
TenTec Century 21
TenTec Argonaut 509
Yaesu FT-990 (x2 for SO2R)
Icom IC-706G MkII
Yaesu FT-817ND

We’ve moved into a house with about 6 acres, so the wire antennas are starting to come together – my XYL got me a copy of The ARRL Antenna Book for Christmas, and I’ve been studying it along with Wire Antenna Classics and More Wire Antenna Classics from the ARRL…not to mention an awful lot of websites, including those from W8JI and the late W4RNL.  There are a lot of options, and I’ve got a good bit of room to work with.    Still have a lot of planning to do…but at least we’re moved in!
